About the Authors
Marguerite J. Foxon is Principal Performance Technologist with Motorola and has extensive experience in evaluation, performance improvement, and the design of leadership development programs. She has global responsibility for the core leadership and management development curriculum, and also undertakes evaluation research within Motorola to assess transfer and organizational impact. Previously she was National Director of Education with PriceWaterhouseCoopers for Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Marguerite is a Director with the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction (www.ibstpi.org), is on the Board of ASTD’s Certification Institute, on the Board of LearnShare, and active in AHRD. She is on the Advisory Board of Educational Media International and a reviewer for Human Resource Development Review. Marguerite received her PhD in Instructional Systems from Florida State University. Honors include twice winning the Outstanding Instructional Designer award from the Australian Institute of Training and Development, and the Association for Educational Communication & Technology’s Robert de Keiffer International Fellowship for forging professional ties between the USA and Australia & New Zealand.
Gary R. Morrison is a professor in the department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction in Old Dominion University’s College of Education where he teaches courses in instructional design. After receiving his doctorate in instructional systems technolog y from Indiana University, he worked as instructional designer for three Fortune 500 companies and the University of Mid-America. Previously, he was a professor in the instructional design and technology programs at the University of Memphis and Wayne State University. His research focuses on cognitive load theory, instructional strategies, K-12 technology integration, and distance education. He is the associate editor of the Research section of Educational Technology Research and Development and is on the editorial boards of Computers in Human Behavior, Quarterly Review of Distance Education, and Libraries Unlimited’s Instructional Technology Series. Gary is the senior author of Designing Effective Instruction 4 th Ed. and Integrating Computer Technology int o the Classroom 3 rd Ed. Gary is also author of over 20 book chapters, over 50 articles, and over 100 conference presentations on topics in instructional technology.
Rita C. Richey is Professor and Program Coordinator of Instructional Technology in the College of Education at Wayne State University. She has been at Wayne State for over thirty years and has extensive experience in program design and development, teaching and in education and training research. She is widely published in the area of
instructional design and technology. She has written or edited ten books, including The Theoretical and Conceptual Bases of Instructional Design, Designing Instruction for the Adult Learner, and The Legacy of Robert M. Gagne. She is also co-author of the third edition of Instructional Design Competencies: The Standards, the third edition of Training Manager Competencies: The Standards and Instructional
Technology: The Definition and Domains of the Field. The latter book received the 1995 Outstanding Book Award and the 1996 Brown Publication Award, both from the Association of Educational Communications &Technology (AECT) and has been translated into three additional languages. She has published over 30 articles and books chapters. She is a past IBSTPI Vice-President for Research and Development and a past President of AERA's Special Interest Group on Instructional Technology. In recognition of her career's work, in 2000 she received the AECT Distinguished Service Award.
