About the Authors
Francis "Frank" M. Duffy is Professor of Change-Leadership in Education at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He held an honorary faculty position in the Harvard Graduate School of Education, sponsored by Chris Argyris. He is the founder and president of The F. M. Duffy Group and founder of the Alliance for Systemic School Improvement through Systems Thinking (ASSIST)--a small community of practice for educators in Maryland who are interested in whole-system change. Dr. Duffy has also published seven books on whole-system change in school districts, including Moving upward together: Creating strategic alignment to sustain systemic school improvement. He is also the Editor of Rowman & Littlefield Education ’s Leading Systemic School Improvement Series. He was a 2002-2003 Education Policy Fellow with the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL).
Charles M. Reigeluth has a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology from Brigham Young University. He taught science at the secondary level for three years and spent ten years on the faculty of the Instructional Design program at Syracuse University, culminating as chair of the program. He has been a Professor in the Instructional Systems Technology Department at Indiana University since 1988, and served as chairman of the department from 1990-1992. Dr. Reigeluth's interests include transforming public education and designing high quality instruction. He has published eight books and over a hundred articles and chapters on those subjects. He is the major developer of several instructional design theories, including the elaboration theory and simulation theory. Two of his books received an "outstanding book of the year" award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology.
