About the Authors
Katsuaki Suzuki is Professor of the Faculty of Software and Information Science at Iwate Prefectural University, Japan. He received a M.S. and Ph.D in Instructional Systems from Florida State University and a B.A. in Educational Technology from International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Suzuki serves boards of directors for Japan Society for Educational Technology (JSET) and Japan Association for Educational Media Study, and boards of editors for JSET and Japan Society for Information and Systems in Education. He is an honorary member of e-Learning Consortium Japan, and has been directing projects for Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Japanese Ministry of Education, among others. His research interests include instructional design models, research methodologies, and curriculum design for informatics.
Jan Visser is President and Senior Researcher at the Learning Development Institute (http://www.learndev.org), where he has prime responsibility for the Meaning of Learning and The Scientific Mind focus areas. In addition, he is one of the Directors at the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction. He is also UNESCO’s former Director for Learning Without Frontiers, a global transsectoral program of which he was the principal architect. A theoretical physicist by original vocation and training, who graduated from the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, he strayed into many other areas, including filmmaking and instructional design. In the latter area, he obtained his degrees from Florida State University. While broadening his interests and activities beyond the study of nature, his original passion, he developed a career that lasted more than three decades in international development, working around the globe. Dr. Visser is also a musician (who builds his own instruments) and an avid walker.
